The Perfect Oven Baked Burger

The burger Gods are smiling down.  I don’t know why I wasted so much time trying to cook burgers on the stove top. Seriously. Now, I know there’s people out there that think it’s a tragedy to cook a burger anywhere other than a grill. I understand that. I agree. There’s nothing like a juicy delicious grilled burger. BUT – when you live in an apartment with a tiny balcony that can’t really fit a grill… what else are you to do but cook your hamburgers inside?

Oh, and this method is so easy and hassle free. Instead of standing there flipping your burger to stop it from burning, you sit on the couch and flip a magazine page with a glass of wine on the end table! Can’t beat that.

So here we have it. The most delicious method you can use, when cooking a burger inside. Now, this isn’t my first burger post. So I’m sure you have read all about how many times I tried to successfully cook a burger on the stove only to fail each and every time. Imagine my excitement when I learned that it wasn’t me that sucked at cooking burgers, it was just the stove! YES!

The ability to cook the perfect indoor burger might not be high on everyone’s list but I live with two cheeseburger aficionados…  Seriously, their love of burgers rivals my love of chicken nuggets. I’m so happy to have found a burger that impresses two of the toughest critics around; my husband and stepson. Really, my husband has asked for these twice a week for the least 2 weeks!

So if you have burger lovers in your house, give these babies a try. You won’t regret it.

And extra props to you if you add organic ketchup and a dollop of Sir Kensington’s Special Sauce, like I did. I hope we never run out. We’ll be fighting over the last spoonful. It’s like condiment crack over here in this house!

What You Need

2lb grass fed organic ground beef (you can taste the difference, I swear)

1 small yellow onion, diced really small

2 tbs gluten free soy sauce

1 tsp coconut aminos

2 tbs organic worcestershire sauce (I can never spell that correctly….)

1 tsp dijon mustard

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp sea salt

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp smoked paprika

What To Do

Preheat oven to 350 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, combine all sauces, spices and ground beef. Using your hands, mix it all together until the seasonings and sauces are nicely intertwined with the beef. You don’t want only a couple burgers to have all the flavor!

Form into 6 – 8 patties, depending on how big you like your burger; and place on the parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Bake for 25 minutes then remove from oven, flip and put back in the oven for 5-10 minutes depending on your burger thickness. Using a meat thermometer, make sure each burger reads an internal temperature of 160.   If you’re adding cheese to your burger, add with about 2 minutes left on your oven timer!

Then, top as desired and enjoy!  My favorite toppings include avocado, bacon, and red onion. My husband likes to eat his burgers between two pieces of toasted Ezekiel bread with cheese and onions. I eat mine without the bun. You can get really fancy, and enjoy your burger on a bed of arugula with crumbled feta, like I did the last time I made them and top with Special Sauce of course!  The options are endless!
